BDPL lab

The Born Digital Preservation Lab (BDPL) creates disk images and preserves data from Stanford Libraries’ collections for faculty, staff, and curatorial needs.  Our labs are staffed with digital archivists and lab assistants capable of recovering data from a wide variety of digital carriers including whole computing systems, CDs and DVDs, thumb drives, SD Cards, Zip disks and floppy disks.

The Born Digital Preservation Lab supports a variety of formats found in our collections: 

Computer Media
5 1/4" floppy disk ("Minifloppy")
3 1/2" floppy disk ("Microfloppy") 
Compact Flash Memory Cards (CFD/MD, MSC, MS Pro, SMC, xD, SD MMC)
Disk images (.dd, .ad1, .eo1, .img)
Hard Disks Drives in various form factors with the following interfaces (IDE, EIDE, SATA, SCSI)
Iomega Zip disks (100 MB and 250 MB)
Optical Media (CDs and Mini CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray)
Solid State Drives (SATA, M.2)
